Royal Holloway College ~ A Wedding And Events

Royal Holloway Wedding And Events promotional Shoot

Royal Holloway College, part of the University Of London, is a place that has always been on my radar. As a local girl I would often admire the architecture of the main Founders Building as I drove past – it’s pretty darn impressive. In fact, it was one of the first places I photographed as a 19 year old with my new SLR camera.  I clearly remember the grounds awash with bright yellow daffodils leading up to the Founders building, modelled on the ‘grandest of French Chateau’ ( the design of William Henry Crossland). So, I hope you will appreciate what a honour it was for me, all these years later, to be commissioned to photograph the university for their new conference and events website.

The university provides a fantastic and rather grand setting for a wedding. The grounds have very contrasting settings as far as wedding photography is concerned. The Quadrangle, dominated by the statue of Thomas (and Jane) Holloway, the philanthropist who founded Royal Holloway and Bedford College, dramatic, symmetrically pleasing, and could only be Royal Holloway.  The grounds by contrast, with various paths and walkways, leafy and private and very beautiful.

I had a great team to work with, and I want to thank real life couple (not models), Karl and Charlotte for being so utterly brilliant. Christina Jessel for her hair and makeup skills. Gaby from The Fine Flower Company for her dreamy flowers. Rock The Frock Bridal Boutique for a great dress that worked so perfectly. Mostly though, I want to thank Sara Gibbs of Royal Holloway, for both commissioning me, and for being absolutely wonderful to work with. It was such an enjoyable day. Here are the results.

The Picture Gallery is the university’s setting for civil wedding ceremonies. It contains Thomas Holloway’s collection of 77 paintings, that in modern money would have cost around 6 million pounds! If I was a guest at a wedding here I would arrive early just so I could spend a while taking in these wonderful paintings. They were pretty distracting while I was trying to photograph the room. I felt very lucky to have it all to myself, just for a while.

Past students can get married in the university’s non-denominational chapel which really is a breathtaking setting.
