A Richmond Winter Wedding – Marie-Louise & Alex

A Beautiful Winter Wedding At St Paul’s Church East Molesey And Afterwards At The Richmond Hill Hotel

Richmond Winter wedding bride and groom portrait.

Yesterday I shot my first 2022 wedding documenting Marie-Louise (Lulu) and Alex’s beautiful Winter wedding. Despite the chilly (but thankfully dry) weather, it really was the most heart warming day, full of love, joy, and family.

The couple were such a treat to photograph; relaxed and brimming with happiness. Also, maybe I’ve been reading too many articles on body language, but as I sat and looked over the images from yesterday, I couldn’t help but notice how connected Marie-Louise and Alex are. There are so many shots where they mirror each other’s stance and expressions! When a couple are so in tune with each other for me, it’s just a matter of focusing on the story telling and all those gloriously natural moments. I hope they shine through in this preview.

I started the day documenting final bridal preparations, before a quick walk to the church and capturing some pre wedding shots of Alex. Reverend Anne Farmer was so lovely, and basically allowed me to do whatever I needed to get some intimate shots of the ceremony. Of course as usual I tried to be as discrete as possible, but it’s so good to capture all those little moments and expressions that the congregation don’t always see. As I’ve said before, I want people to remember how they felt, as well as how they looked.

Being a smaller wedding, the ceremony felt intimate, with thoughtful readings and a great selection of music. Then of course confetti. There has to be confetti! A few group shots, then guests departed to travel on to the Richmond Hill Hotel.

Meanwhile, with Marie-Louise’s mum acting as chauffeur, we headed to Hampton Court for some bride and groom portraits. I can’t lie, it was baltic, but so much fun. Then when we arrived at the hotel, we headed a short walk away for some further hilltop portraits with views of the Thames.

After the heart-aching events of the pandemic, the restrictions, separation and loss, this day really did feel like a balm for the soul. The couples have such warm wonderful families. I found it an absolute joy to be there to share a little part of there day. It reaffirmed how important it is to record these precious memories.

Here are a few favourites, but I hope the eventual collection will give Marie-Louise and Alex, their friends and family, so many happy memories.

Congratulations you gorgeous pair. J x
