Bouquet Colour Palettes ~ Choosing A Colour Scheme

For me a wedding has to have real flowers. Nothing can replace their beauty or the choice of colour variety and scent. There is something so wonderful about walking into a venue and being hit by the heady perfume of thousands of freshly cut flowers, it’s really very intoxicating. Having been a bride, I can tell you that even now if I smell a Peony such as those I had at my wedding, it still evokes the memories of the day.

I will often chat with a bride about  flowers and colour choices before her big day, I am very nosey and I like to hear all about it!   When a bride has yet to choose her colour scheme, or is finding the choice of flowers seasonally available somewhat baffling, I’m always happy to recommend some fab florists, many of who’s work is featured here.   When I arrive to photograph a wedding I can’t wait to see how a bride’s ideas and a florist’s talents have come together. When done well, they really add something special and very memorable to the day.

Here is a selection of bouquets I have photographed for real brides and for editorial shoots. If you are still thinking about your own colour scheme perhaps it will give you a few ideas.

What could be more beautiful than a delicate pastel bouquet for a Summer wedding? I loved Hannah’s ‘peaches and cream’ bouquet featuring David Austin roses and scabious. So pretty. Created by Fiori By Lynne who is based in Hampshire.

How about a simple colour scheme of whites for a rustic country wedding? Not only was Catherine’s bouquet full of charm with a ‘gathered from the meadow’ feel, each and every element was grown from seed by her mum in the months leading up to the wedding!

This beautiful pastel bouquet, created by Steph of Fairynuff Flowers is very classic and yet that pop of grey adds a very contemporary ‘on trend’ element. The bouquet was created in Winter but would suit a wedding in any season.

LOVE this delicate rose bouquet by Gayle of Bloomin’gayles. Such a sweet bouquet with a cute vintage feel.

Another glorious bouquet created by Fairynuff Flowers. Beautiful for a Winter wedding. I love how the Sage leaf breaks up the delicate whites and it smells divine. White bouquet can disappear against a wedding dress, but this bouquet would be perfectly visible.

This bouquet is perfect for a relaxed Winter wedding.  Fairynuff Flowers created a sophisticated yet subtle look and those white berries add an interesting texture.

Oh how I love the garnet tones of this bouquet, and who knew Eucalyptus was available in such a fabulous shade of mauve? Possibly my favourite bouquet ever? That Fairynuff Steph is really rather clever!

Bride Paula chose a really vibrant colour scheme for her October wedding at Loseley Park.  The bouquet was created by Nikki of Senses Floral based in Surrey.

Sarah chose vibrant purple for her Frensham Heights Summer wedding to Tony, and her bridesmaids Hydrangea bouquet were the perfect accompaniment. Her flowers were created by Eden Blooms.

I love Joanna’s Cornflower, rose and Freesia bouquet. The colours were perfect for her wedding to JD at the Guildhall, Royal Windsor!

This zesty yellow bouquet works so well because of the balance of colour and texture. It’s super pretty yet not overwhelming and would add instant sunshine to any Spring or Summer wedding. Credit where credit due, Steph did it again!

When it comes to choosing the colour scheme for your wedding let it reflect your personality.  If you want a bold look go for it! Bride Abigail went for a hot tropical feel to compliment are orange themed wedding. This amazing bouquet was created by Stems of Southwater.

Wedding flowers are not just there to make your day ‘pretty’, a good florist will discuss your wedding plans and get to know you and your partner so that the flowers reflect your taste and personality. They help to tell the story of the day. Emma Lappin created this beautiful exotic look for Benji and Tyara’s civil and Hindu ceremony at The Elvetham. The colours were just perfect for the occasion and the theme continued with tall vase containing orchids and floating candles for their reception.
