One of the loveliest things about my job is when a couple invite me back to document the arrival of their first baby. I love newborn photography, but for me, it has to be natural heartfelt and authentic. I know Tony and Sarah well, having already documented their engagement and wedding, so this was a relaxed and comfortable session. In the home, no gimmicks, no fake storks or giant flowerpots and definitely no rabbit ears. Having been a community midwife in a past life, it’s always a rather lovely time of the old meeting the new, and a setting in which I feel very relaxed and assured.
My aim here was to capture the sheer emotion and wonder of those first few days for the new parents with their long awaited little girl. Eleanor, so new, so tiny, so loved. As a mum, I know that the most precious photographs of my own babies are those that show me cuddling and interacting with them. They also show just how tiny they were! How quickly they grow, how quickly we forget. Those are the images that really bring all the emotions flooding back.
Tony and Sarah, thank you so much for yet again entrusting me with something so special. J x
